About URL Encoding

URL encoding (percent-encoding) converts characters into a format that can be transmitted over the Internet.

Characters encoded: All non-alphanumeric characters except - _ . ~ are converted to % followed by two hexadecimal digits.

Common use cases:

  • Query string parameters in URLs
  • Form data submission
  • API requests with special characters
  • Embedding URLs within other URLs

Examples:

Space → %20 or +! → %21# → %23$ → %24% → %25& → %26' → %27( → %28) → %29* → %2A
All processing happens locally in your browser. Your data is never sent to any server.
